PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed lawyer Melvin Matibag as the new director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), a Malacañang official said Thursday.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced Matibag’s appointment during a press briefing in Malacañang.
Castro said the President considered Matibag’s trustworthiness and competence as key factors in his appointment.
“Nandoon po ‘yung tiwala. Nakitaan po niya si attorney Melvin Matibag na maaaring pagtiwalaan, maaaring magtrabaho para sa gobyerno,” she said.
Castro noted that additional details about the appointment will be released once they become available.
Matibag will take the helm as NBI chief, replacing former NBI Director Jaime Santiago. Prior to his appointment, Angelito Magno had been serving as officer-in-charge following Santiago’s resignation.
