THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Thursday confirmed the death of three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to severe flooding that hit the desert nation.
“With much sadness, the Department of Migrant Workers reports the deaths of three overseas Filipino workers — two females and one male, as a result of the heavy flooding in the United Arab Emirates, the DMW statement said.
According to the Department, the two females died due to suffocation inside their vehicle during the flooding while the third victim died due to major injuries sustained from an accident when his vehicle fell into a sinkhole at the height of the flooding.
“The entire DMW family offer our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families and relatives of our departed OFWs,” DMW officer-in-charge Hans Leo J. Cacdac said.
“The Department assures the families of the three OFWs of its fullest support and assistance,” he added.
Cacdac said the DMW’s Migrant Workers Offices and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are working closely to provide all assistance to the families of the three OFWs.
