THE Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Friday said that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has not issued a proclamation declaring January 2, Tuesday, the day after New Year, as a special non-working day.
“Wala po,” Presidential Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil said when asked by Malacañang reporters if the President will declare January 2, 2024 a holiday.
The President earlier declared December 26 — the day after Christmas — a special non-working day nationwide.
The declaration was to give the people the full opportunity to celebrate the holiday with their families and loved ones.
The Marcos administration adopted “holiday economics” in 2022 through Proclamation No. 90, which adjusted national holidays.
According to the Palace, a longer weekend will help encourage domestic travel and increase tourism expenditures in the country.
