A POLICE officer died while another is in serious condition when an Isuzu DMax pick-up truck driven by an alleged drunk student on Sunday rammed a checkpoint on Aguinaldo Highway in Bgy. Tubuan, Silang, Cavite.
The fatality was identified as Patrolman John Karl Delyola, a 27-year-old member of the 401st Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Batallion-4A, and a resident of Calamba City, Laguna.
Delyola’s companion, Patrolman Adrianne Atienza, 29, of Balagtasin, San Jose, Batangas, is in serious condition at the hospital.
Delyola and Atienza were manning a checkpoint in the area when hit by the pick-up truck driven by 22-year-old Jemuelle Arvee Bernardo Belen at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday.
Due to the strong impact, the two cops were thrown off, landed on the pavement, and suffered severe head and body injuries.
Fellow officers rushed the victim-cops to the Silang Specialist Medical Center, where Delyola was declared dead on arrival.
The young driver was arrested and according to a police report, he tested positive for alcohol.
