THE House Committee on Appropriations has approved the budget for the proposed measure that aims to provide universal pension to all senior citizens.
This was learned from Laguna 3rd district Rep. Loreto “Amben” Amante.
Amante said some P89-billion in the annual budget will be allotted for the purpose.
Included in the proposed measure are all senior citizens nationwide, not just indigents, in the current social pension program.
According to Amante, if it becomes a law, all senior citizens who are not covered by the current pension program will receive a P500 social pension.
“We are happy because all senior citizens will now be covered by social pension,” Amante, vice chairman of the Committee on Senior Citizens and member of the Committee on Appropriations, said.
House Committee on Senior Citizens chairman and Senior Citizens party-list Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes hopes the measure will hurdle the third and final reading before Congress adjourns sine die later this month.
