THE New Year celebrations on Wednesday turned tragic when a 23-year-old vlogger and an 8-year-old boy died in separate firecracker-related incidents in Cebu.
Vlogger Cyril John Remis, a resident of Bgy. San Roque, Asturias, was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital after a firework exploded near his chest.
Investigation showed Remis was lighting fireworks when the incident happened.
Witnesses told police that Remis approached a bombshell-type firework that failed to ignite, believing it was a dud.
While attended to the device, itunexpectedly detonated, causing fatal injuries to his chest and face.
Remis was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In Talisay City, an 8-year-old boy died while three others were injured in a firecracker explosion in Purok Kamunggay, Bgy. Cadulawan.
An illegal firecracker called “Goodbye Philippines” was blamed the death of the boy that also caused injuries to three others.
