DEPED CALLS FOR SWIFT JUSTICE AMID KILLING OF FEMALE SULU EDUCATION OFFICIAL

THE Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday called for a speedy justice as it  condemned the fatal shooting of an assistant schools division superintendent in Sulu.

Dr. Sonatria D. Gaspar, was shot repeatedly in the head in broad daylight by an unidentified man outside her office in Bgy. San Raymundo, Jolo last week.

“We extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the grieving community she has left behind,” the DepEd said in a statement.

According to the Education Department, Gaspar was a dedicated education official whose service inspired thousands of learners and countless colleagues.

“Her senseless passing robs us of her contributions. This violence steals futures of potential impact, leaving an absence that will be profoundly felt,” the DepEd said.

The Education Department said that the attack on Gaspar was an attack on the education system itself.

“This has no place in our learning spaces, in our communities, and in our society,” the DepEd said.

DepEd reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of educators nationwide.

“We join our colleagues in BARMM in calling for swift justice and accountability,” the statement added.

The DepEd is coordinating with Gaspar’s family and colleagues for assistance as it vowed to continue working with the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE) to foster a peaceful learning environment in the region.
