THE Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will implement a fare increase starting April 2.
This after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has issued the notice of approval for a fare hike at LRT-1 last February 14.
Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) president Enrico Benipayo on Tuesday announced the new fare scheme.
“The newly approved fare scheme is lower than the 2024 rates applied for by LRMC and is only equal to the 2022 LRMC application as provided for in the concession agreement,” Benipayo said.
Based on the decision of the DOTr’s Rail Regulatory Unit (RRU), the LRT-1 boarding fare has increased to P16.25, with a distance fare of P1.47 per kilometer.
The minimum fare for a single journey ticket will soon become P20 from P15.
The fare from Dr. Santos Station to United Nations Station will cost P35 from P30; and from Dr. Santos Station to Fernando Poe Jr. Station to P55 from P45.
Fare for passengers using stored value “Beep” cards will be slightly lower at P19, P34, and P52, respectively.
According to Benipayo, the fare increase is the second time the LRMC has been granted a fare adjustment in the past 10 years despite the opening of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension.
