MOTORCYCLE-RIDING armed men on Monday killed in a gun attack an incumbent barangay chairman of Talavera in Nueva Ecija.
Slain was Bgy. Calipahan chairman Joel Damacio, 49.
Damacio died on the spot from gunshot wounds in the head and body.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo, the Nueva Ecija police said a barangay tanod named “Bay” was injured after being hit by stray bullets in the arms and legs.
The shooting occurred on Maharlika Highway in Talavera municipality at 8:40 a.m. Monday.
Damacio just came from the Calipahan Elementary School for the opening of the Brigada Eskwela and was returning home when the shooting occurred.
The village chief was driving his motorcycle when upon reaching Purok 5, he saw his barangay tanod driving in the opposite direction.
Damacio made a u-turn to approach the tanod when the motorcycle-riding armed men suddenly shot him repeatedly before fleeing.
Scene of the Crime Office (SOCO) personnel found at the crime scene spent bullets from a cal. .9mm pistol.
A flash alarm was immediately launched for the arrest of the gunmen.
