PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) acting chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has relieved Col. Jean Fajardo as spokesman of the national police force.
Nartatez, in a media interview at the chief PNP office in Camp Crame, Quezon City, said the spokesperson role should come from the Public Information Office (PIO), which is headed by Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño.
“The PIO is here. He is handling the repository of reports and preparing them for the public,” Nartatez told reporters.
Fajardo was previously reassigned by then PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III to the Directorate for Comptrollership while concurrently serving as spokesperson. She assists the chief PNP in the administration and management of financial resources.
According to Nartatez, the chief of police himself should speak for the entire institution.
“Designated siya na spox, eh nandito ang ating PIO. Eh, under naman ‘yon doon dapat. Eh, ‘di parehas kami – ‘yong Office of the Chief PNP, merong spokesperson at merong PIO. Eh, parang iisa lang yata ‘yon,” Nartatez said.
Nartatez advised media to coordinate with Tuaño for official statements.
