A GRADE 5 student died on the spot while another student was injured when the firecrackers they picked up along the road exploded in Tondo, Manila.
The injured was a Grade 7 student.
Both victims were 12 years old and residents of Tondo.
According to a report from the Manila Police District (MPD), the incident occurred near the corner of Lorenzo St., and Abad Santos Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The two students were walking along Lorenzo St. when they noticed firecrackers on the pavement.
Witnesses said the Grade 5 student picked up the firecracker while the Grade 7 student took the piccolo firecracker.
Upon reaching Abad Santos Avenue, the Grade 7 student ignited the piccolo using a lighter when both firecrackers exploded.
The Grade 5 student died from severe injuries while the other student was rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment.
