TWO elderly couple on Saturday died in a fire that hit a residential area in Bgy. Tejeros, Makati City.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fatalities were a 70-year-old female and her 69-year-old husband.
Six others were also injured.
The fire razed a residential area on D. Gomez St. corner Sandico St. Bgy. Tejeros, Makati City around 1:50 a.m. Saturday.
The blaze immediately spread to the adjacent houses.
Responding firefighters helped contained the blaze.
The fire reached third alarm. A fire out was declared at 6:40 a.m.
“Nakakalungkot na balita kasi merong mag-asawa na nasawi dahil dun sa sunog. Ang confirmed casualty ay dalawa,” Makati Mayor Nancy Binay said.
“Ililipat natin sa Barangay Carmona Covered Court. So pansamantala, doon muna sila magstay,” she added.
The Makati Social Welfare Department said around 126 families were rendered homeless by the blaze.
Arson investigators are determining what started the fire.
