TWO drug suspects escaped from their jail cell in the Science City of Muñoz Police Station (SCMPS) in Bgy. Catalanacan in Nueva Ecija.
A report to Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) director Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio Penones Jr., identified the escapees as Romar Cordon, 38, of Purok Curva, Bgy. Bantug; and Jayson dela Cruz, 34, a resident of Bgy. Poblacion West, both in the Science City of Muñoz.
The duo are facing charges for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The escape was discovered on February 7 by incoming duty desk officer PSSg Ofelia Sibuma while conducting a routine inspection of detainees at the SCMPS custodial facility.
While checking the detention cell, Sibuma noticed that the two persons under police custody were no longer inside.
An ocular inspection later revealed that the metal grill at the rear portion of the jail cell had been forcibly cut using a steel saw.
Police immediately launched manhunt operations to locate and re-arrest the fugitives.
An investigation is also ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the escape and the possible lapses in jail security.
