A MAGNITUDE 6.6 earthquake o Friday night struck Balut Island in Sarangani.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, occurred at 7:34 p.m. about 90 kilometers southwest of Balut Island.
It had a depth of 10 kilometers.
Intensity 5 was felt in Kiamba, Sarangani while intensity 4 in Don Marcelino, and Santa Maria, Davao Occidental
Intensity 3 was recorded in Davao City and Matanao, Davao del Sur.
Phivolcs placed at intensity 2 the tremor in Digos City, Davao del Sur; Monkayo, Mawab, and Maragusan, Davao de Oro.
No tsunami alert was issued.
The latest quake came weeks after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit Mindanao on June 8.
The death toll from the June 8 quake rose to 81, with more than 1,000 others injured, the country’s civil defense agency, said.
