AN anti-narcotics police officer was killed in a buy-bust operation that ended into a gunfight in Bgy. San Esteban, Dasmariñas City, Cavite.
Killed in the encounter was Police Corporal Anthony John Martinez, assigned to the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU)-4A.
Arrested during the operation was the alleged drug group leader, an alias “Jun,” 42.
“Jun” is on the police’s list of “high-value” drug suspects and was the primary target of the buy-bust operation.
The suspect’s cohorts identified by their aliases “Nalos,” “Asera,” and another with various aliases such as “Geston, Keith, Lendy, Baldos, and Andrada” managed to escape and are being pursued by a tracking team from the Dasmariñas PNP.
The shootout occurred on Nido St., Bgy. Esteban at around 11:40 p.m. on Monday.
An investigation showed that prior to the encounter, Martinez, accompanied by a confidential informant and other RDEU-4A operatives, went to the hideout of suspects “Andrada” and “Asera” to conduct a buy-bust operation.
RDEU-4A officer Staff Sergeant Franz Zorilla acted as poseur and purchased shabu from alias “Jun” using P1,000 in buy-bust money.
However, one of the four suspects sensed the sting and suspect “Andrada” immediately pulled out a gun and shot Martinez at close range.
A gunfight ensued.
The other suspects, who were then sniffing shabu, managed to escape.
Officers were able to arrest the alleged drug leader.
Confiscated at the clash site were seven plastic sachets of suspected shabu.
