MARCOS ADMINISTRATION EXPANDS HEALTH MEASURES AS SUPER EL NIÑO THREATENS EXTREME HEAT

PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration is stepping up health measures to protect the public from anticipated extreme heat linked to Super El Niño.

In a press briefing Wednesday, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the government is coordinating with local government units, health offices, schools, workplaces, and communities to prepare for the expected risks.

“So kailangan po ng hydration and cooling measures, health monitoring and assistance for vulnerable residents, particularly children, adults, outdoor workers, and people with existing health vulnerabilities. Extreme heat is among the anticipated risks,” Castro said.

The measures include hydration and cooling interventions, health monitoring and assistance for vulnerable residents.

Castro said extreme heat and dehydration are among the health risks being addressed as the government strengthens its preparations.

PAGASA has warned that the ongoing El Niño is expected to intensify into a “very strong” state in the coming months and persist through the first half of 2027.

The weather agency said El Niño increases the likelihood of below-normal rainfall and may cause dry spells and droughts in some parts of the country.
