A FILIPINO seaman died in a suspected attack at an oil tanker on Persian Gulf, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Saturday said.
The name of the Pinoy seafarer was withheld.
The DMW said there were 22 Filipino crew members on board the ship. The 21 others “were reported unharmed,” the Department added.
According to the DMW, the explosion occurred in the early hours of Nov. 5 while the Marshall Islands-flagged MT Velos Sapphire was sailing to Sitrah, Bahrain.
Based on initial reports, the explosion was possibly caused by a “drone attack” but remains unverified.
The DMW has expressed condolences to the family of the seafarer.
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the ship owner assured support for the seaman’s family.
