PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared August 29, 2026 a special non-working day in the Fourth Legislative District of Cavite to enable registered voters to participate in the special election to fill a vacant seat in the House of Representatives.
Under Proclamation No. 1369, the special non-working day covers the Fourth Legislative District of Cavite, comprising the City of Dasmariñas, where the special election will be held following the expulsion of the district’s incumbent representative.
The proclamation cited Republic Act No. 6645, as amended by Republic Act No. 7166, which requires the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to call and conduct a special election when a permanent vacancy occurs in the House of Representatives at least one year before the expiration of the term.
The election must be held not earlier than 60 days nor later than 90 days from the occurrence of the vacancy.
The proclamation noted that the vacancy resulted from the expulsion of the incumbent member representing the Fourth Legislative District of Cavite.
It further stated that the special election for the district, comprising the City of Dasmariñas, is scheduled on August 29, 2026.
To ensure that voters can fully exercise their right to suffrage, the President declared August 29, which falls on a Saturday, a special non-working day in the affected district.
By authority of the President, acting Executive Secretary Ralph G. Recto signed Proclamation No. 1369 on July 29. |
