IT will be a full circle moment for the Philippine International Convention Center as it serves as the main venue for the ASEAN Leaders’ Summit in November.
It is a national treasure that must be preserved and its contributions to the country’s culture and heritage recognized for generations to come, Malacañang said.
The PICC, which marked its 50th anniversary last September 5, serves not just as a world-class venue for international events but has also borne witness to the talent and success of Filipinos, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said.
“Hindi na mabilang ang mga pagtatapos, panunumpa at iba pang mahahalagang okasyon na ginanap sa loob ng mga gusali ng PICC. Kalakip nito ang mga alaalang mananatili sa puso ng mga pamilyang Pilipino kahit ilang dekada pa ang dumaan,” Castro noted in a press briefing in Malacañang.
“Sa dahilang ito pa lamang ay maituturing nang kayamanan ng bansa ang PICC na dapat ingatan.”
The convention center, underwent a comprehensive restoration last year spearheaded by First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.
In 1974, former First Lady Imelda Marcos commissioned the PICC to serve as the country’s premier convention hall, with the center opening its doors to the world in just two years.
