FOR generations, stories of unexplained encounters have surrounded the Baguio Mansion House, with some accounts tracing these mysterious experiences to the city’s tragic past during the war.
Recalling his childhood visits to the mansion, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. shared that he and his companions sometimes felt an eerie sensation that was difficult to explain.
“Noong bata kami, pumupunta kami doon ‘pag Holy Week.
The President said such experiences were not limited to visitors, noting that even people who lived and worked in the mansion, particularly its caretakers, had shared accounts of strange occurrences, including inexplicable sounds.
The President suggested that these accounts could be linked to Baguio’s history during the war, when fierce fighting took place.
The intense fighting resulted in numerous casualties among American, Filipino, and Japanese soldiers.
For the President, the possibility that some of those who perished during the war may have remained in Baguio offers one explanation for the stories of unexplained encounters in the mansion.
The Baguio Mansion House was originally built as the summer headquarters for Governors-General during the American colonial period, eventually becoming the official summer residence of the President of the Philippines.
On September 8, 2024, the Baguio Mansion House reopened as the Presidential Museum, welcoming visitors to this historic site in the country’s summer capital
