AN 8-year-old girl who was reported missing on Monday was found dead in a grassy area at Purok Kape 2, Bgy. Magcong, Maragusan, Davao de Oro.
The victim was found with her lower garment partially pulled down.
Recovered beside the girl was a rock suspected to have been used in the killing.
Also discovered at the crime scene were a cigarette, two strands of pubic hair, a cellular phone charger, a pair of slippers, and a flashlight charger believed to be owned by the suspect.
In a follow-up operation, police arrested a 59-year-old man who was the last person seen walking with the girl.
Suspect Cristobal Traña was nabbed by members of the Maragusan police. The suspect is a resident of a nearby barangay.
The mother reported to the police at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday that her daughter is missing.
The family searched for the victim when she failed to return home late Sunday night until she was found dead at 12 noon the next day.
Authorities said the recovered pieces of evidence were submitted to the Regional Forensic Unit 11 for DNA examination.
