A TOTAL of 472 police personnel were dismissed from the service due to various offenses, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. on Friday said.
Nartatez told a press briefing at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) in Camp Karingal that the ouster was a manifestation of the aggressive campaign to ensure the integrity and professionalism of the organization.
According to Nartatez, aside from the dismissed policemen, 42 other cops were demoted while 434 were suspended for various offenses.
He said 187 cops were reprimanded while 91 were penalized by forfeiture of salary.
The Metro Manila top cop also said that they have a total of 1,226 personnel who are facing administrative cases.
“I have already given instruction for the fast resolution of the case but without sacrificing the due process,” he said.
Based on records, Nartatez said most of the dismissed cops were axed for being absent without official leave (AWOL) while some due to minor offenses. The most common, he said, is simple neglect of duty.
He said most of those demoted were punished for failure to comply with their obligation to appear in court hearings.
Meanwhile, QCPD director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, in the same press conference, said they are continuously implementing several measures to weed out the scalawags in the QCPD.
Maranan said they are continuously monitoring the activities of those “bad eggs in uniform” and they are conducting counter-intelligence to check on what they are doing.
“Our internal cleansing mechanism is also in place, as well as administrative mechanisms, wherein we see to it that they are punished if they would commit wrongdoings,” Maranan added.
