CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – Combined Forces of the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) of the Philippine Army (PA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday arrested two high-ranking New People’s Army (NPA) leaders in an operation in Makati City.
Arrested were Gavino Panganiban alias “Nori/ Momoy/ Benson/ Sonny/ Mando/ Teddy/ Rato” and Marites David alias teacher “Lally/Nikki.”
The duo were nabbed in an operation at Pililia St. in Bgy. Valenzuela, Makati City.
Panganiban was arrested based on arrest warrants for murder and attempted murder issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 65 in Infanta, Quezon and Branch 172, 4th Judicial Region, RTC in Gumaca, Quezon, respectively.
David was caught by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Judge Rosauro Angel David of the Regional Trial Court Branch 101 in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna for violation of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.
Authorities said the arrest of the duo will eventually add to the deteriorating morale in the ranks of the communist terrorist group following the successive arrest, capture, surrender, and death of their members and leaders these past months.
The two arrested NPA terrorists were placed under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for documentation and proper legal processing.
