THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Sunday said some 66 candidates for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) may be subjected disqualification case due to early campaigning.
Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia said nobased on their initial assessment, there are 66 candidates who may be charged this week to be disqualified from the election due to possible involvement in premature campaigning.
Garcia said some of them held raffles, posted campaign materials, including their name and the position they were running for, while some also used social media to campaign early even though it was not yet the campaign period.
He stressed that whatever platform the candidates use, it is still premature campaigning because the official campaign period will be from October 19 to 28.
Garcia said as of September 23, they have issued a total of 1,955 show cause orders to BSKE candidates and 228 candidates have responded while 104 complaints have been dismissed.
