THREE persons involved in failed non-surgical procedures were arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in a raid at an unlicensed vanity clinic in Iloilo City.
Nabbed were Ivonne Pal, Roselyn Panes, and Michelle Tamdang, according to the NBI – Western Visayas Regional Office (NBI-WEVRO).
The raid was prompted by a series of complaints about poorly executed non-surgical beauty treatments conducted by alleged cosmetic surgeons and aesthetic practitioners at Angel’s Pretty Aesthetic Beauty Lounge in Molo, Iloilo City.
Rather than improving the appearance of patients who underwent facial rejuvenation and contouring, they experienced severe bacterial skin and soft tissue infections following the procedures.
The complainants disclosed that the beauty establishment maintained a public Facebook account to advertise their aesthetic services.
Verification through the Professional Regulatory Board (PRC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that the beauty establishment was practicing medicine without the necessary license.
The NBI-WEVRO conducted an entrapment operation at the target establishment. An undercover operative posed as a patient seeking a nose lift procedure for a fee of P10,000.
Upon payment to suspect Pal, who was set to perform the procedure, NBI-WEVRO promptly arrested her, along with clinic staff members Panes and Tamdang.
Pal, Panes and Tamdang were subsequently subjected to inquest proceedings before the Iloilo City Prosecutor’s Office.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 2382 (Medical Act of 1959) and estafa under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC), in connection with Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Law, were filed against the arrested suspects.
