A MAGNITUDE 7.1 earthquake early Tuesday morning struck off the coast of Sarangani Island in Davao Occidental, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 76 kilometers, occurred at 4:48 a.m. Tuesday.
No damage was reported.
Intensity IV was felt in Malungon, Alabel, and Kiamba, Sarangani.
Phivolcs said there is no tsunami threat following the strong quake.
The Sarangani quake happened more than a month after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off Surigao del Sur.
