BUREAU of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. has ordered the suspension of 26 officials and employees of the agency.
Lumagui said the 26 are facing charges for grave misconduct, serious dishonesty, gross neglect of duty, violation of reasonable office rules and regulations, violation of the Anti-Red Tape Act of 1997 and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
According to Lumagui, his mission is to have an agency filled with professionals who have integrity.
“The suspension of 26 BIR officials shows our commitment to the Filipino people. You deserve only the best in public service,” he said.
“The BIR will continue to create a culture of professionalism and integrity under my watch,” the BIR commissioner added.
The BIR filed charges with preventive suspension orders against 21 employees.
Of the total number of charges, 18 were implemented and three were due for implementation.
BIR has also penalized five employees, bringing the total suspended employees to 26.
