FILM director and comic strip creator Carlo J. Caparas passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2024, at the age of 80.
Caparas’ daughter, Peach, announced his death on Facebook, posting an ode to the late director titled “Sa Bawat Tipa ng Makinilya.”
“Salamat Direk Carlo J. sa mga dibuho at istorya. Mga istoryang nabuo sa bawat tipa ng iyong makinilya,” Peach wrote, expressing gratitude for her father’s contributions to Filipino art and storytelling.
“Dad, you will forever be loved, cherished, and honored…by all of us,” she added in her post.
The cause of Caparas’ death was not revealed to the public.
Caparas is renowned for his comic strip characters and superheroes such as “Ang Panday,” “Bakekang,” “Pieta,” “Totoy Bato,” “Tasya Fantasya”, “Juaquin Bordado,” “Kamandag,” “Elias Paniki,” and “Gagambino.”
He also directed the “The Vizconde Massacre” whose lead character was portrayed by Kris Aquino.
According to his family, the official wake will begin on Monday, from noon until midnight, at the Haven Memorial Chapels and Crematorium in Taguig City.
Caparas is survived by his children C.J. and Ysabelle Peach.
