NATIONAL Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents on Thursday arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City a suspected illegal recruiter attempting to send her two recruits to Thailand as missionaries.
NBI Director Jaime Santiago identified the suspect as Priscilla Sunga Tabilog, who is facing charges for violation of the Migrant Workers Act and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law.
Tabilog, who claims to head the Alliance of Bishops, Ministers, and Educators International Inc., was caught trying to board a flight to Thailand with two other passengers, claiming they were on a religious mission.
An investigation revealed that the two recruits were pretending to be missionary volunteers bound for Thailand.
The recruits then admitted that they were promised teaching jobs in Thailand and Tabilog facilitated their travel.
The Department of Migrant Workers confirmed that Tabilog lacked the proper license to recruit overseas workers.
Santiago commended the agents of the NBI-International Airport Investigation Division for the arrest and cautioned the public to verify the legitimacy of recruitment agencies before applying for jobs abroad.
