THE former mayor of Plaridel, Quezon who is running for vice mayor of the town on Tuesday was injured in an alleged robbery attempt on Maharlika Highway in Bgy. Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City.
Wilfredo Magbuhos, 52, a cockpit operator residing in Bgy. Wakas, Tayabas City, sustained bullet wounds in the right arm and left leg, said Lucena City police chief Lt. Col. Dennis de Guzman.
Magbuhos told probers that the incident happened while he was driving his car with his employee on way home from the cockpit arena.
The former mayor stopped in front of Prime Water office at the village at 11:57 p.m. on Tuesday, where his employee alighted from the car.
He said a man armed with a gun suddenly approached and tried to grab his bag containing the cockpit collection for the day.
The former mayor told probers that he resisted until the gun went off, hitting him in the arm and leg.
The suspect fled on foot.
Magbuhos then drove his car to the nearby MMG Hospital, where he is now confined.
Responding lawmen recovered at the passenger seat of Magbuhos car a fired cartridge for a cal. .40 pistol.
An investigation is ongoing.
