PHILIPPINE Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) administrator Nathaniel Servando on Friday said they are expecting that the rainy season may probably start next week.
According to the PAGASA chief, they are closely monitoring the criteria for the declaration of rainy season.
He said among the indicators are the persistence of low-level southwesterly windflow in the western section of Luzon, and the weakening of the easterly winds.
The weather bureau is also considering the rainfall amounts recorded along the western part of the country or the Visayas and Luzon.
He said Mindanao is not included in the monitoring parameters because Luzon and Visayas are areas classified as Type 1 climate or affected by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
PAGASA on Friday declared the start of the habagat, which is one of the precursors of the start of the rainy season.
