PBBM ORDERS DEMOLITION OF ‘MT. KAMUNING’ FOOTBRIDGE

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday directed the  Department of Transportation (DOTr) to tear down the controversial “Mt. Kamuning” footbridge in Quezon City and replace it with a safer, more accessible pedestrian crossing.

The footbridge has long been criticized for being inaccessible, particularly to senior citizens and  persons with disability (PWD).

“Ang tingin ko talaga sa saloobin ni Pangulo ay hindi naman talaga dapat ganito ang ginagawa natin para sa mga kababayan natin lalo na’ yung mga road user at commuter,” DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said.

“Sinabi sa akin ng Pangulo, ‘we have to tear it down and build a better one.’ And I think that is really the essence of what he wants to do,”  Dizon added.

The Transportation chief assured the public that the government will act swiftly to follow through on the President’s directive.

“Malinaw naman ang utos ng Pangulo na gawing mas convenient ang facilities natin para sa pedestrians at commuters. At ‘yan ang gagawin natin, sisiguruhin natin na ‘yung ipapalit na overpass ay mas madali para sa mga kakabayan natin,” said Dizon.

According to Dizon, the new footbridge will be built at a lower elevation, will feature elevators, and be directly connected to the GMA-Kamuning EDSA Busway station.

Construction is expected to start this year.
