CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga — A former police officer and two of his cohorts on Tuesday were arrested for robbing an elderly businessman in Santa Maria, Bulacan.

The 71-year-old businessman, was about to deposit P500,000 cash when one of the suspects suddenly pointed a gun at him, took the cash and fled on a motorcycle driven by a cohort.
The victim immediately sought help from a traffic enforcer who quickly relayed the robbery to the Santa Maria police.
Patrolling policemen responded and flagged down the suspects in Bgy. Catmon, where the duo were caught with the stolen money and the firearm used in the crime.
Recovered from the suspects were the stolen P500,000 cash, one cal. .40 pistol, a magazine loaded with 12 live bullets, and the plateless motorcycle used as the getaway vehicle.
Police said a third suspect who acted as a spotter was later arrested in a follow-up operation.
The Central Luzon top cop commended the operating troops and underscored the importance of swift coordination between the community and the police.
“This incident highlights the value of vigilance and immediate reporting. Under the leadership of our new acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., we remain focused on strengthening public safety through quick and effective police action,” Peñones said.
