A TANKER truck driver on Monday was torched to death when the vehicle he was driving exploded after crashing into another truck and two tricycles parked on the road shoulder on New Diversion Road in Bgy. Malinao Ilaya, Atimonan, Quezon.
Town police chief Maj. Marnie Abillanida said the truck driver identified only as “Rolando” was trapped inside the truck and was totally burned by fire.
Abillanida said the tanker truck was fully loaded with gasoline when the incident happened.
On impact, Abillanida said four trike passengers, three of them students, and a construction worker sustained injuries and were rushed to Doña Marta Hospital for treatment.
The official said the tragedy occurred at 7a.m. Monday while the truck bound for Bicol was descending the curved portion of the highway.
The driver reportedly lost control of the steering wheel causing the tanker truck to smash the other vehicles resulting in the explosion.
Responding policemen and personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) quickly put out the fire.
