POLICE arrested a 33-year-old Malaysian national for allegedly attempting to bribe lawmen in exchange for the release of his compatriot who was caught for berating authorities at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City on Wednesday.
Nabbed was Jack Boo.
According to a report submitted to Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Roderick Mariano, Boo tried to bribe police officers at the Taguig City Police Substation 1 in BGC where the suspect’s companion identified only as Chong was detained around 3:50 a.m. Wednesday.
Confiscated from Boo was the P30,000 bribe money. He will be charged with violation of Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code, which pertains to the corruption of public officials.
Investigation showed that Chong was earlier arrested for violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code or disobedience to an agent or person in authority, resisting arrest, alarm and scandal, unjust vexation, and oral defamation.
Female officers who were on patrol duty arrested Chong, who was then drunk, outside a restaurant at The Fort Strip on 5th Avenue in BGC for smoking in a parking area which was designated as a no-smoking zone.
The policewomen informed Chong about the no-smoking policy but instead of complying, he insulted the female officers by attempting to bribe them to let him continue smoking.
A security guard of the restaurant urged the suspect to return to the restaurant.
The police officers approached the restaurant management and reminded them of their responsibility to inform customers about the no-smoking policy.
Chong became furious, went outside the restaurant and cursed at the responding police officers and the security guard that led to his arrest
