SOME 55 Filipinos applying to work abroad were rescued on June 6, 2026 by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) from unsafe and substandard accommodations in Imus, Cavite.
The rescued applicants received immediate welfare assistance and temporary shelter from the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
They will also receive legal aid and other support from the DMW’s Migrant Workers Protection Bureau (MWPB).
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, who led the raid, ordered the filing of recruitment violation cases against the recruitment agencies found responsible.
The operation was launched after reports surfaced about the illegal and deplorable living conditions of OFW applicants housed by licensed recruitment agencies while awaiting deployment.
During the inspection, authorities found that the facilities did not meet basic health, safety, and welfare standards for the temporary housing of OFW applicants.
The operation is part of the DMW’s intensified nationwide inspection of accommodation facilities for prospective OFWs, aimed at safeguarding their welfare and ensuring their safety.
