A 70-YEAR-OLD widower on Sunday was arrested after he tried to sneak shabu inside the Nueva Ecija Provincial Jail using his grandson’s diaper in Cabanatuan City.
According to Nueva Ecija police chief Col. Richard V. Caballero, the suspect is a resident of Purok 2, Bgy. San Juan ACCFA, this city.
Caballero said the illegal drugs was intercepted during a routine check conducted by prison guard Rene Diaz and security aide Cornelio Soriano at the entrance gate of the jail facility on Maharlika Highway in Bgy. Caalibangbangan at 9:45 a.m. on Sunday.
The elderly man was supposed to visit his son who was detained due to illegal drug charges.
Investigation showed during the routine inspection, jail guards found a plastic sachet containing shabu weighing one gram worth P6,800 hidden inside the worn diaper of the suspect’s grandson.
Caballero said the arrested suspect and the seized pieces of evidence were turned over by the NEPJ guards to the Cabanatuan City police for proper disposition.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 are being readied for inquest-filing against the suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
