THE National Bureau of Investigation-Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD) arrested three individuals for selling registered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards.
Charged with violation of RA 11934 in relation to RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012) at the Pasay and Las Piñas Prosecutors Office were Beverly Cruz, Keone Lebumfacil and Aljon Reyes.
The NBI confiscated as many as 1,023 SIM cards with different networks in separate operations on September 8.
The NBI was informed that registered SIM cards are being sold on a Facebook group Sim Card Philippines Buying and Selling.
The NBI said in the Facebook group, an account name Nopce Naldz commented that he is offering 1,000 registered SIM cards for P10 each.
A poseur-buyer agreed to meet with Nopce Naldz at a convenience store in Malibay, Pasay City.
Cruz came to the meeting place and gave the three SIM cards to the poseur-customer for verification. However, it was found out that one of the SIM cards was registered while the other two were unregistered.
The poseur-customer allegedly bought 560 SIM cards from Cruz and found out that some SIM cards were not registered, so Cruz agreed for P1,000 payment.
The NBI agents arrested Cruz after receiving the payment through her GCash account.
Meanwhile, an Armando Samling also commented in the Facebook group that he has 5,000 registered SIM cards and selling them for P30 each.
Another poseur-customer transacted with Samling but refused for a meet-up and instead a delivery rider was sent to Pilar Road, Las Pinas City where the suspects Lebumfacil and Reyes handed over the SIM cards.
They were arrested after accepting the P2,000 payment from the poseur buyer.
