NAGSIMULANG mag-hunger strike noong Miyerkules ang SMNI hosts na sina Lorraine Badoy at Jeffrey “Ka Eric” Celiz bilang pagkondena sa kanilang pagkakadetene sa House of Representatives.
Kinumpirma ito ng kanilang abogado na si attorney Mark Tolentino.
“I am joining Ka Eric in a hunger strike to protest yesterday’s traversity that was a direct offshoot of the infiltration of the CPP-NPA-NDF inside Congress and to also hold those in power accountable to the Filipino,” ani Badoy sa isang statement.
“Our democratic right to free expression—the right above all rights—is being trampled on by government and our freedom of the press, where government is being held accountable to the people, is being demolished right before our very eyes,” dagdag pa ni Badoy.
Siniguro naman ni House Secretary General Reginald Velaso na hindi nila pinababayaan ang kondisyong medikal ng dalawang hosts sa kabila ng ginagawa ng mga itong hunger strike.
Si Badoy at Celiz ay pinatawan ng contempt ng House Committee on Legislative Franchise noong Martes matapos ang mga itong tumangging sagutin ang ilang tanong ng mga kongresista at umano’y pagsagot ng “walang galang” sa mga mambabatas.
Iniimbestigahan ng House panel ang dalawang hosts sa alegasyong fake news at red tagging.
Kamakailan ay nagpayag sa ere si Celiz hinggil sa umano’y paggastos ng P1.8 bilyon ni House Speaker Ferdinand “Martin” Romualdez sa kanyang mga biyahe noong 2023.
