DASMARINAS City in the province of Cavite has been placed under a state of calamity due to dengue outbreak.
In a social media post on Friday, Mayor Jenny Barzaga said the city recorded 928 infections as of November 6, this year.
Barzaga said the number is nearly four times higher or 397 percent up than the 233 cases reported during the same period last year.
The declaration of a state of calamity based on Resolution 435-S-2024 enables the local government unit to mobilize resources and implement strategies to address the outbreak effectively.
The Dasmariñas City mayor emphasized the urgent need for action to curb the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
“It is of dire importance that necessary measures be taken to prevent further spread of the virus,” she said.
“All are advised to spread awareness and be informed about what dengue is and what we can do to avoid it,” she added.
The 75 barangays in the city are now working in full swing to curb the worsening dengue cases.
The City Health Office advised that every barangay work together to contain the dengue outbreak.
Dengue is a viral infection caused by mosquito bites, primarily from the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Symptoms include high fever, headache, body ache, nausea, and rash. Most recover within 1-2 weeks, but severe cases can be fatal.
Health personnel continue conducting misting and fogging to prevent dengue and lessen the case of dengue outbreak.
The CHO also reminded everyone to throw away things were mosquitoes thrive and always keep the surroundings clean.
Cavite provincial health officer Dr. Nelson Soriano said besides the City of Dasmariñas, the increase in dengue cases in the neighboring city of Imus is also being monitored.
The Cavite Provincial Health Office on Saturday said Cavite province has recorded 10,119 dengue cases within 47 weeks of the year 2024, starting from the month of January.
Imus City had the highest cases with 1,532 followed by Bacoor with 1,500; General Trias with 1,183; Dasmarinas City with 1,101 cases; Trece Martires City with 904 cases; and Tanza with 847 cases.
Soriano said 43 fatality cases (.42%) were recorded this year compared to five deaths last year.
Most of those affected were males at 5,345 or 53 percent. Some 6,970 or 69 percent of individuals affected by dengue were admitted to different hospitals.
General Trias City health officer Dr. Jonathan Luseco said in the city, they are conducting non-stop fogging and misting operations, open communication with barangay officials and coordination in the high burden barangays.
“Mayor Jon Jon Ferrer procured chemicals to be used in fogging operations. We are taking an inter-agency approach to fogging with CENRO and GSO, along with our CHO fumigators, in collaboration with the 33 barangays in the city,” Luseco said.
