A 30-year-old man on Monday took his brother hostage in Tondo, Manila.
The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the suspect as alias “Alex,” 31, of Recto Avenue, Delpan St., Tondo.
The victim was “Alex’s” younger brother, “Arnel,” 28.
Investigation showed prior to the hostage-taking, the brothers had a heated argument after the victim allegedly declined to accompany the suspect to Quiapo.
The suspect said he needed to transfer place after receiving a death threat in their Tondo neighborhood.
Irked suspect grabbed a knife and held his brother hostage.
Witnesses immediately sought he help of village officials who called the police.
Authorities said the suspect initially refused to surrender, demanding that his mother be present before complying with the police.
After efforts to locate his mother, the suspect peacefully surrendered and turned over the knif he used in the hostage-taking that last more than 30 minutes.
