POLITICAL group People’s Progressive Humanist Liberal Party (PolPhil) yesterday said those involved in flood control project anomalies should be held accountable and government reforms should be implemented.
The group said people responsible in flood control project mess should be imprisoned.
According to PolPhil, the expanding protest actions of the people will continue until no one involved in the “ghost” flood control, and the government’s “cooked” biddings are punished.
In a rally held on November 30 (Sunday) at the People Power Monument on Edsa, PolPHIL emphasized that the public’s “uprising” is just and meaningful—proof of the strong desire for a government that is honest, has a transparent process, and truly serves the people.
“Ang demokrasya ay gumagana dahil kumikilos ang sambayanan,” Edicio dela Torre, a PolPHIL Emeritus, said.
Dela Torre, a former priest and political prisoner, said the mechanisms of democracy remain strong despite the crisis.
“What we are witnessing is democracy in action. Investigations, free media, whistleblowers, and the people themselves are pushing for accountability, dela Torre said.
“These processes must be protected and allowed to function,” he added.
He stressed the importance of the right to protest. “Peaceful assembly is not a threat—it is the pulse and strength of democracy. It must be respected and protected by the government at all times,” said dela Torre.
PolPHIL national chairman Rodolfo “Rudy” Cañeda said that true leadership is a commitment to reform and not repression.
“Hindi tayo pabor sa kudeta, ayaw natin ng power grab, dapat makulong ang lahat na sangkot sa pagnanakaw sa kaban ng bayan” Cañeda said.
Cañeda urged elected officials to face the crisis with courage, openness, and integrity.
“May karapatan ang publiko na maningil. At dapat tumugon ang ating mga lider hindi sa pamamagitan ng pagsupil sa tinig ng taumbayan, kundi sa pagyakap sa malalim at kinakailangang reporma,” Cañeda added.
