A CHINESE businessman and a female employee were arrested by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for alleged illegal manufacture and sale of unregistered and unlabeled foam mattresses in Bgy. Patubig, Marilao, Bulacan.
CIDG Regional Field Unit 3 chief Col. Grant Gollod said arrested were alias “Zhe,” 60, a Chinese national and owner of the business, and alias “Ika,” 20, an employee and a resident of Marilao, Bulacan.
The operation, conducted under Oplan Megashopper, was carried out by the CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit, in coordination with the Marilao Municipal Police Station and representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry, at a warehouse in Bgy. Patubig.
The Chinese trader and his employee were caught while selling unregistered and unlabeled foam mattresses to an undercover police officer.
Acting as complainant was a trade industry development analyst and authorized representative of the DTI Central Office in Makati City.
Seized during the operation were dozens of foam mattresses of varying sizes that served as the subject of the buy-bust operation, an order slip receipt, one genuine P1,000 bill used as marked money, and 43 pieces of boodle money.
Also seized were additional bundles of unlabeled foam mattresses found in plain view inside the warehouse.
The total estimated market value of the confiscated items was placed at around P175,000.
The arrested suspects were taken to the CIDG Bulacan Provincial Field Unit headquarters along with the confiscated items for documentation and proper disposition.
Charges for violation of the Consumer Act of the Philippines are being prepared against the suspects.
