THE vice mayor of Ibajay, Aklan on Friday was shot dead by an incumbent councilor inside the Sangguniang Bayan office in the municipality.
Police identified the victim as Vice Mayor Julio Estolloso, 50.
The suspect was councilor Mihrel Senatin, 43.
The shooting occurred inside the Sangguniang Bayan office at 9:15 a.m. on Friday.
An investigation showed that prior to the killing, the councilor had asked a Sangguniang Bayan staff member for copies of all ordinances passed during his term.
The councilor then approached the vice mayor and reportedly asked, “Vice, anong kasalanan ko sa iyo?”
Senatin then suddenly drew a gun and shot Estolloso in the chest.
The vice mayor was rushed to Ibajay District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Responding policemen arrested the councilor.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the motive for the killing.
Authorities said there was no known animosity between the suspect and the victim, who belong to the same political party.
Senatin is now detained at the Ibajay Custodial Facility facing murder charges.
